ABBA KABIR YUSUF, SUPO OLUSI, IMASUEN & EMERUWA BAG 2025 AIFF MERIT AWARD 

 

The 22nd Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) takes great pride in announcing the recipients of this year’s Special Recognition Awards, celebrating not only artistic excellence but also the significant contributions to the film and creative sector in Nigeria and beyond. This year’s distinguished merit awards honor individuals whose visionary leadership and unwavering commitment have driven the growth and development of the creative industries.

 

The prestigious AIFF Distinguished Merit Award will be presented to His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State

Governor Yusuf has demonstrated exceptional dedication to nurturing the film industry in Kano State through a series of impactful capacity building initiatives. His efforts have catalyzed the growth of local talent and empowered aspiring filmmakers, positioning Kano as a vibrant hub for creativity and innovation in Nigeria’s film landscape. Also to be honoured is Dr. Olasupo Olusi, MD/CEO of the Bank of Industry (BOI).

  

Dr. Olusi’s innovative financial services and products have revolutionized funding opportunities for Nollywood. Particularly noteworthy is the 2015 Project Act Nollywood grant scheme that he expertly coordinated for the Federal Ministry of Finance, facilitating access to vital resources for filmmakers and supporting the sustainability of the industry. His visionary approach continues to inspire and empower a new generation of creative entrepreneurs.

 

The award extends to Nollywood filmmakers like Ambassador Lancelot Imasuen whose over 30 years contributions to film on the African continent, Ambassador Imasuen is a testament to dedication and excellence in the creative arts. His extensive body of work has not only entertained audiences but has also advanced the storytelling landscape, paving the way for future generations of filmmakers. Joining Imaseun is Mr. Bond Emeruwa who is being recognized for his remarkable development and leadership qualities, Mr. Emeruwa has been a key figure in shaping the direction of Nollywood. His pioneering contributions have provided mentorship and guidance to countless creatives, ensuring the continuous evolution and global reach of Nigerian cinema.

 

According to Festival Director Temitope Duker, “The motive behind the awards at this year’s festival is to recognize and uplift artists who are pushing the boundaries of creativity. We believe that art has the power to inspire change, and our aim is to honor those whose work reflects this potential. By celebrating their achievements, we hope to encourage a new generation of artists to pursue their passions and make their voices heard.”
