Ibadan Loni Fuji : The Anthem That Brought A City Together

When Ibadan Loni Fuji finally dropped on September 30, 2025, it wasn’t just another Fuji release — it was history, rhythm, and pride rolled into one anthem. The anthem, running 27 minutes and 36 seconds, and now streaming across platforms, carries the soul of a city that gave Fuji some of its strongest voices.

Earlier this year, during Ibadan Week 2025, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) — led by Barrister (SAN) Ajeniyi Ajewole and Magaji Moshood Akere — decided the annual celebration needed something that would last beyond the fanfare. Their goal was simple: create a cultural time capsule for the city.

That’s how Ibadan Loni Fuji was born — a unifying project designed to celebrate Ibadan through the genre that helped define its identity. Instead of inviting just one act, CCII brought together an all-star lineup of Ibadan’s Fuji heavyweights: Ayinde Rasheed, Ayinla Karachi, Obesere, Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, Askari, and Muri Thunder.

To shape the sound and message, CCII enlisted Prince Ademola Adelakun, a prolific songwriter, composer, and producer known for his ability to merge tradition with modern flair. He composed and structured the entire record, stitching together each artist’s verse, idea, and melody into one cohesive anthem.

Every performer brought something distinct — Obesere’s vocal charisma, Osupa’s lyrical depth, Currency’s texture, Muri Thunder’s fire — but Prince Ademola ensured it all flowed like one heartbeat. The end result? A seamless anthem that feels less like a collaboration and more like a collective statement.

Though Ibadan Loni Fuji was meant to debut during Ibadan Week, logistics delayed the release until September. But that delay added weight. When the anthem finally surfaced, each artist uploaded it on their platforms, and CCII did the same — emphasizing that the anthem belongs to everyone involved, and by extension, to Ibadan itself.

It’s rare to see a Nigerian city produce its own anthem — not commissioned by a government office or corporate brand, but by artists and citizens united by pride. This project did exactly that.

Beyond the melody, Ibadan Loni Fuji is a cultural reminder. It celebrates the city that helped shape Fuji’s raw energy, its storytelling, its pulse. And in a time when the genre continues to evolve, the anthem grounds listeners in the roots — the markets, the parades, the timeless Yoruba rhythms that define Ibadan’s sound.

It’s not nostalgia; it’s affirmation. A declaration that Ibadan is still here — vibrant, creative, and central to Fuji’s ongoing story.

Ibadan Loni Fuji isn’t owned by one name — it’s owned by a city. From CCII’s vision to Prince Ademola’s composition and the voices of Ibadan’s Fuji greats, this song is proof that when tradition meets unity, the result can still move a generation.
