We are deeply alarmed by reports that the *House of Representatives* has received credible *threats of bombing against the national legislative complex.*
We demands for *urgent action* to safeguard democracy, legislative integrity and the *safety of elected officials and civil servants* who serve the *Nigerian people.*
The revelation of a *planned terror attack* on the heart of our democracy is *unacceptable* and must provoke swift, coordinated response from the security agencies, the legislature and the executive.
We highlights the following concerns:
1. The *security breach at the National Assembly complex* reflects grave vulnerabilities of state institutions and underscores the urgent need for enhanced protection and intelligence sharing.
2. The attack threat is not only an assault on physical infrastructure but also an attempt to *destabilise democratic governance and silence the voice of the people.*
3. The continued exposure of lawmakers and legislative staff to such threats should trigger immediate review of security protocols, funding of protective services and transparency on measures being taken.
The *ADC National Media Frontiers calls for:*
An immediate *full scale investigation* into the origin of the threats, the agencies involved and any lapses that enabled them.
*A publicly accountable report within 14 days* on the protective measures being implemented to secure the National Assembly and associated legislative infrastructure.
*Enhanced legislative oversight of security spending* and coordination, ensuring citizens’ representatives are properly shielded from intimidation and violence.
A broader national discussion on the safeguarding of democratic institutions, with a view to *strengthening resilience across state and federal levels.*
We reiterates our unwavering commitment to democratic governance, public safety and the rule of law, and *pledges to work alongside stakeholders* to ensure that the legislative arm of government remains free from coercion, threat and disruption.
