The *African Democratic Congress (ADC)* has dismissed claims by the *All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman,* Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, that *key ADC figures* will soon defect to the ruling party, describing the statement as a *desperate attempt to mask the APC’s growing unpopularity among Nigerians*.
In a statement jointly issued in Abuja by *Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi,* National Publicity Secretary of ADC, the party said the APC’s current scramble for membership from other political parties clearly reflects its *deep anxiety and loss of public trust.*
The attention of the *African Democratic Congress (ADC)* has been drawn to a declaration by the *APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda,* claiming that key ADC figures’ would soon join the APC. This only underscores a deep realization by the ruling party that even with all the governors and senators it boasts of, it remains desperate for acceptance, the statement read.
The *ADC* stressed that no amount of defections or political propaganda can save the APC from *Nigerians who have suffered under its leadership*, saying the ruling party has “become the most hated in the country due to the hardship it has imposed on the people.
The truth remains that the *APC is a sinking ship*. No wave of defections can rescue it from the verdict of *Nigerians whose lives and livelihoods it has destroyed,* the ADC added.
According to the statement, the ADC described the latest wave of defections as a *gang up against the people by a ruling elite* that has consistently prioritized *self preservation* over public welfare.
We wonder if the APC has run out of governors to seduce that it now resorts to shadowy references to unnamed ADC members. If these individuals are truly so *key,* let the chairman of the discredited party have the courage to *mention their names,* the statement challenged.
The ADC noted that the APC was simply repeating *the same ruinous game the PDP played at the height of its power,* warning that the ruling party would soon learn the same bitter lesson.
*Real democratic power lies with the people* not a few power merchants who think they can buy loyalty and silence dissent, the statement concluded.
