An open letter to Kemi Badenoch

Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, is misguided in her harsh criticism of Nigeria, her country of birth. This negativity is particularly damaging at a time when Nigeria is striving for economic stability. Instead of being a critic, she should focus on contributing to the country’s growth.

Her harsh words can discourage foreign investors, hindering Nigeria’s economic progress. It’s essential to acknowledge that Nigeria is not poor, but rather, the government is working diligently to address mismanagement and prioritize the country’s needs. Some notable achievements include the removal of subsidies on petroleum and foreign exchange, which is a step in the right direction.¹

By channeling funds away from wasteful expenditures, the government can allocate resources more efficiently. Nigeria has also made significant strides in addressing insecurity in the northern and eastern regions. Furthermore, the country boasts a unique environment where cultural and religious values are deeply ingrained.

Unlike the UK, where social issues like rape, homosexuality, and discrimination are prevalent, Nigeria has a distinct cultural identity that values community, respect, and tradition. While the UK may have its own set of social issues, Nigeria’s unique environment offers a refreshing alternative.

As a proud Nigerian, I acknowledge the country’s challenges but also recognize its strengths and resilience. Let’s focus on promoting positivity and supporting Nigeria’s growth, rather than perpetuating negativity and division. By working together, we can build a brighter future for Nigeria and its people.

Nigeria remains a great nation, the African Giant. We have never committed genocide on another country, unlike the UK’s history with South Africa under Queen Elizabeth’s rule. In Nigeria, we have Queen Mothers who are revered and respected, not queen murderers.

Kemi Badenoch, as a leader and as a queen and as a mother to a generation, you have a responsibility to promote positivity and support Nigeria’s growth. Do not murder the growth and development that Nigeria is working to achieve.
