We, Concerned Indigenes of Ijebu land, wish to alert the public to serious procedural errors and substantial breaches in the current attempt to commence the selection process of the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
The 1959 Registered Chieftaincy Declaration on the Awujale stool- which is the grundnorm and the only lawful registered instrument governing the succession, which the letter from the Secretary of the local government even relied on in giving notice to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to produce nominations for the Awujale stool- has been violated in multiple ways:
1.The Thirteen (13) Kingmaker (Afobajes) positions remain disputed as of now, yet the government has not published or make known the authentic list.
2.The so called Interregnum Committee, which has sworn to an affidavit stating that it is not a Kingmaking body, has continued to interfere in the process.
In fact such a body is unknown to the tradition and culture of Ijebu land in the process of filling the vacant stool of the Awujale.
3.Asking any Ruling House to present candidates within 14 Days without resolving the Kingmaker (Afobajes) disputes is unlawful, untidy and utterly destabilising to the whole process of Kingmaking.
We hereby call and plead with the Ogun State government to suspend the process and all actions taken so far in order to restore due process in line with the 1959 Registered Chiefta
incy Declaration.
