The Ọmọlúàbí Progressive Movement, in collaboration with supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Friday welcomed a host of political representatives at the Eco Hall, Egbeda, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, as stakeholders intensified discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, held on January 31, 2026, brought together party leaders, aspirants and supporters, with a strong message centred on political change, youth inclusion and grassroots mobilisation. The gathering was organised by the Ọmọlúàbí Progressive Movement, a political group aligned with former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Speaking at the event,H.E. Dr Noheem Abiodun Balogun, formally declared his intention to contest the governorship under the ADC platform, stressing that the gathering was not a campaign but a statement of intent. He said Nigerians had endured prolonged hardship and suffering, making change inevitable.
“This is not a campaign but a declaration of intention to contest for governorship representing the ADC. When the campaign starts, you can ask me any questions and I will answer,” Balogun said.
He urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as their “right and visa to vote,” while noting that the 2023 general election sent a strong message that citizens could no longer tolerate the status quo.
Balogun also expressed readiness to work with individuals and groups across party lines, stating that there would be no discrimination against those genuinely committed to national progress.
In his remarks, Hon. Oyesola Okiki emphasised the need for aggressive grassroots mobilisation, particularly at polling unit levels. He said the challenge ahead was against political forces unwilling to relinquish power, urging Nigerians to make the right choices in 2027 to ensure the country works for its citizens.
Chairman of the Ọmọlúàbí Progressive Movement in Alimosho, Hon. Obakoya Olufemi, expressed confidence in the ADC aspirants, attributing his optimism to the youth-driven support behind them. He said the movement was determined to change the political narrative and secure a better future for young Nigerians, whom he claimed had been denied opportunities by the current government.
Also speaking, Hon. Rasheed Alao, ADC House of Representatives aspirant for Agege Federal Constituency, commended members of the Ọmọlúàbí Progressive Movement and ADC supporters in Alimosho for their massive turnout. He described the attendance as a clear signal that residents were ready for a political shift from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC.
Alao said the large crowd reflected growing confidence in the ADC’s vision for people-oriented governance, urging supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation. He stressed that ordinary citizens stood to benefit most when credible leaders were elected into office.
The federal aspirant further encouraged Nigerians to distance themselves from what he described as “bad political parties” and align with credible platforms. He recounted his political journey from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and eventually to the ADC, citing dissatisfaction with the policies and direction of his former parties.
The gathering ended with renewed calls for unity, voter participation and sustained mobilisation as political actors prepare for the 2027 elections.
