Laide Gold to be Conferred with Ìyá Ìròyìn of Meiran Kingdom

The Onimeiran of Meiran Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Awoyemi Adisa, will officially confer the title of Ìyá Ìròyìn of Meiran Kingdom on Mrs. Olaide Aderonke Ayinke Gold. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on 24th January 2024 at the Meiran Palace in Lagos State.

Mrs. Olaide Gold, a seasoned journalist and Senior Reporter with The Nation newspaper, is also a team leader of the Folusoomosebi Care Foundation. Her illustrious career in journalism and advocacy has earned her numerous accolades, solidifying her reputation as a veteran in the media industry.

An award-winning journalist, Olaide Gold began her professional journey as a Research Assistant in the Department of English at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. She later fulfilled her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mandate as a classroom teacher in Edu Local Government, Kwara State, between 2003 and 2004.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Language & Literatures from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Diploma in Desktop Publishing, Gold transitioned into journalism, joining World Information Agents as a reporter. Her talents also extended to the creative arts, where she served as a part-time script interpreter for Mainframe Productions.

She edited the widely-read Akede Oduduwa Magazine for a decade and worked as a freelance presenter with Radio Nigeria 3 and MITV focusing on culture and tourism.

With over 20 years of experience in Yoruba translation, Mrs. Gold has collaborated with numerous national and international organisations. She has translated books, texts, publications, journals, and news bulletins, showcasing her expertise in preserving and promoting the Yoruba language.

An active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Yoruba Broadcasters Association, and the League of Yoruba Media Practitioners, Gold continues to make significant contributions to the media and cultural landscape in Nigeria.

The conferment of the Ìyá Ìròyìn title reflects her dedication to journalism and her pivotal role in advancing Yoruba culture through her work.
