Reality TV star Phyna has defeated Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday in a highly anticipated celebrity boxing bout held in Lagos in the early hours of Friday, October 2.
Phyna secured victory through a fourth-round knockout, earning herself the championship belt and a brand-new car as part of the prizes attached to the contest.
The fight was the climax of weeks of heated exchanges and intense social media attention between the two entertainers.
From the opening bell, Phyna, who was noticeably smaller and slimmer than her opponent, relied on her speed, movement and quick punches. She moved around the ring effectively, making it difficult for Nkechi Blessing to land clean shots.
Nkechi Blessing, however, responded strongly in the second round, taking the fight to Phyna and engaging her in several powerful exchanges.
The third round saw both fighters adopt a more cautious approach, with neither able to establish clear dominance as they continued trading punches.
The decisive moment came in the fourth round when the two celebrities exchanged a series of punches. Phyna eventually landed a powerful shot that sent Nkechi Blessing to the canvas.
The actress was unable to beat the referee’s count, bringing the bout to an end and handing Phyna a knockout victory.
Following the win, Phyna was presented with the championship belt and a brand-new car by one of the event’s promoters.
Speaking after the fight, Phyna revealed that the knockout was part of her strategy from the outset. According to her, she planned to tire her opponent out before looking for an opportunity to finish the contest.
The rivalry between the two entertainers had attracted significant attention in the weeks leading up to the fight and even resulted in a heated confrontation during a promotional press event, where the pair had to be separated.
After celebrating her victory, Phyna immediately turned her attention to another potential opponent, calling out actress Etinosa for a possible celebrity boxing contest.
Etinosa subsequently entered the ring and accepted the challenge, setting the stage for another possible celebrity bout between the two entertainers, who were described as “two Edo girls.
