Jagunmolu Super Cup: Traditional Ruler Expresses Satisfaction With Organisation and Participating Teams

 

A Lagos based traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson, Jagunmolu III of Shomolu-Bariga has expressed his satisfaction with the organisation and standard of play by the participating teams in the ongoing U-17 Jagunmolu Super Cup taking place across six zones of Lagos.

 

His Royal Majesty disclosed this at the opening match between Shuffle Select FA and Marvelous FA held on Saturday at Abesan Sports Centre,Ipaja, Alimosho, Lagos.

 

The tournament is being sponsored by His Royal Majesty,Oba Timson and organised by Silversport Nigeria Limited.The ongoing tournament serves as Oduduwa South West pre- tournament

 

Speaking with our correspondent, Timson said he was quite impressed with the two teams that played opening match at Ikeja/ Alimosho center and commended the members of Sliversport Nigeria Limited led by Kolawole Oripinye for the job well done.

 

His Royal Majesty who witnessed some matches in various centers stated that he was not only satisfied with the conduct of the players on and off the pitch but he was impressed with the quality of players playing in the tournament.

 

“The tournament has lived up to expectations especially in Shomolu/Bariga center where I watched some matches.So far so good there was no report of violence before, during and after the game.I congratulate the organisers for organising an hitch free tournament across various centers and I wish all the team’s best of luck in their outings,”he said.

 

Speaking in the same vein,Oripinye said his committee would select best five players in each zone noted that the champions in each zone would receive the sum of N100,000 for their performance at the zonal level.

 

He further explained that winner in each zone would also meet in Lagos playoff to determine overall champions.

 

According to Oripinye,the overall winner would go home with the trophy and sum of N500,000, while the first runner up would pocket the sum of N250,000.

 

Oripinye who doubles as coordinator of South West of the tournament further said 30 players would be selected to represent Lagos in the forthcoming Oduduwa South West football competition scheduled to hold this year at Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Center, Ile-Ife Osun State.

 

All the the six states in South West would converge at Ile-Ife to play in Oduduwa South West.

 

Coordinator Ikeja/Alimosho center,Gbemisola Amuludu commended the organisers for empowering the youths with Jagunmolu Super Cup tagged’Pre Oduduwa South West football competition” and urged the participants to be of good conduct throughout the tournament.

 

He described the tournament well organised and gives some clubs to bring their players to the limelight.

 

He however admonished the coaches whose teams are still in the tournament across various centers to shun any form of social vices that can tarnish the image of the tournament.

 

Meanwhile in the two matches played on Saturday, Shuffle Select FA hammered Marvelous FA 4-1, while Santos FA defeated Panthers FA 3-1.The winners have progressed to the semi final
