Prominent Oyo kingmaker dies amid Alaafin stool tussle

The ongoing screening of contestants for the stool of Alaafin of Oyo has suffered a major setback with the demise of a kingmaker and a member of the traditional council, Oyomesi, High Chief Abdul Rasheed Shehu.

Authorities of Oyo East Local Government had in a statement confirmed the passage of Oyo High Chief in the early hours of Sunday.

It was learnt that the Alapinni of Oyoland died in the early hours of Sunday after battling an undisclosed sickness.

His passage is coming amid the tussle in the race for the Alaafin of Oyo’s stool.

Findings revealed that Alapinni has been absent at the ongoing screening and interview of the aspirants vying for the stool of Alaafin of Oyo.

This was said to have been due to his ill-health. His absence had, however, generated concerns.
