Members of Yoruba defence group, Oodua Peoples’ Congress Reformed, commiserate with family of Oyo ruling houses and the all the sons and daughters of Oduduwa as Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi III,the Alaafin of Oyo kingdom joins his ancenstors.

According to Ambasador Dare Adesope,OPC(R) National President, it is well known that Alaafin throne represents the only direct surviving symbol of the sacred royal Atiba of Oduduwa dynasty today in Yoruba Land, after terrible destructions of other Sacred Atiba Royal heritage extensions by European colonial imperialistic.

The news of the great monarch came as a rude shock to us all as untill death, our grand patron but we took solace that he lived a good life, a royal life well spent with much regality befitting the important throne in Yoruba land. Oyo and indeed Yoruba Nation may not have the privilege of another great Alaafin like Oba Lamidi Adeyemi lll because he was the most valid authority that link us to Yoruba History, arts and artefacts, custom, culture and tradition.

Although, Kabiyesi, is no longer with us having joined his ancestors, which is the spirit world of Yoruba cultural worldview but spending 52 years on Oyo Atiba sacred throne is not a joke so we believe Oba Lamidi Olayiwola spirit will definitely continue to be around us, as he shall be resting in Peace with our heritage Ancestors.

We call on the Oyomesi to think yoruba first while choosing a candidate that will
fill the royal stool, they should note that Oyo is an established yoruba country, we
are looking forward to a well read king who is also vast in knowledge of culture and tradition to mount that throne.

Unity is most needed tool now and this is why we want to implore our royal princes
and princesses to be united in this period, our southwest politicians too should also thread carefully especially in the area of choosing the next Alaafin, they should not indulge in any manoeuvering but allow the supreme Being to have his way.
Lastly, everyone knows we members of OPC Reformed is much conscious about security, we shall continue to defend yoruba states from enemies and will never desist from doing so.

  13. The passing of Alaafin Adeyemi III is indeed a monumental loss for the Yoruba people. His 52-year reign made him a living bridge to the rich history and traditions of the Oyo kingdom. The OPC(R)’s call for unity among the royal houses and politicians during the selection of a successor is crucial—the throne deserves a candidate deeply rooted in Yoruba culture and tradition.

  21. It is sobering to reflect on the Alaafin’s passing as a profound cultural loss, especially given the emphasis on the Atiba throne as a surviving symbol of Yorubaland’s royal heritage. The call for unity among the Oyomesi, royal families, and political leaders seems sensible—choosing a well‑versed successor could help preserve the kingdom’s history and traditions during a delicate transition.
