PDP CONFIRMS TRADITIONAL ZONING, PICK OWO/OSE ZONE

The peoples democratic party (PDP) has once again confirmed the traditional zoning of the national assembly slots from Ondo North Senatorial Districts by picking an Owo/Ose man as the party’s candidate in the coming general elections.

The party, in it’s primary election, held today, Monday 23, May 2023, picked Akogun Adetokunbo Modupe as it’s flag bearer for next year general election. Adetokunbo defeated Hon. Adefemi with 124 votes.

Delegates from six local governments, including Akoko Northeast, Akoko Northwest, Akoko Southwest, Akoko Southeast, Ose and Owo voted to elect their representative.

Akogun Modupe scored 124 votes to beat his main rival, Prince Adefemi, who scored 93 votes while one vote was voided.

It will be recalled that the people of Owo and Ose zone have been agitating that the position should be zoned back to Owo Ose zone since the current senator representing Ondo North Senatorial Districts, Professor Ajayi Boroffice, has spent 12 years.

According to the rotational history of the zone, three different senators from Owo/Ose zone spent 12 years before handing it over to Akoko zone, during which Senator Boroffice alone spent 12 years.

A socio-political group, Concerned Citizens of Owo/ Ose zone, has for sometime been clamoring for the position, threatening that they will only vote for any party that picks it’s candidate from Owo/Ose zone.

According to the group coordinator, Chief Mafimisebi Adeola, said the people of Ondo North Senatorial Districts always zoned it’s position every election year, adding that in history, Owo/Ose zone has produced Senator Bode Olajumoke, Senator Titus Olupitan and Senator Ayo Lawrence before shifting the rotational system to Akoko in 2007, during which Boroffice emerged winner and spent 12 years.

According to reports, the delegates voted for an Owo/Ose candidate based on the age-long zoning arrangements among the people of the senatorial district.
The APC is expected to elect its own candidate on Friday when it holds its primary election.
